I keep forgetting to post it here
james bond is absolutely a trans man: an essay
James Bond is trans. First of all, that’s a wild sentence to say about a Sherlock adaptation. Secondly, I can prove that that’s the case. For obvious reasons, this contains manga spoilers up to the most recently translated arc.
To start, his immediate reaction to being told he can use a masculine given name isn’t very cis of him. This reaction is to accept and come up with a surname. I asked my grandma if she, as a cis woman, would be willing to do that. She said she’d have to think about it first. This point doesn’t hold up well on its own, but it helps set a baseline for his identity.
Secondly, Chapter 24 makes it crystal clear that he wants others to treat him like a man. He even says his past self no longer exists. All of this is especially notable in the dressing room scene. There, being misgendered made him get aggressive.
People could argue that James Bond is just a persona if it wasn’t for my third point. He still uses male terms in private after he realizes that he can be himself. He even corrected Jack Rayfield when he calls Bond by his (literal) deadname.
Finally, all the personas we’ve seen him put on are men. On its own, this wouldn’t be much. However, combined with the other evidence, it paints a strong picture. That picture is that he wanted a chance to be treated like a man, and that before someone gave him one, he made his own.
Essentially, my point is that he’s a trans man. Also, these 19th-century men are more progressive than my 21st-century family.
Aveces estas tan triste que lo único que puedes hacer es dormir para olvidarte que existes.
